Understand why an outfit works.

Your intuition already knows when an outfit works. In this workshop your eye learns why: through form, volume, texture, pattern and colour.

No right or wrong. No generic style boxes.
Only intention and perception.

What we'll cover

An outfit is a visual composition. We look at what makes some combinations feel harmonious and others dissonant, and how to use that when you get dressed.

  1. 01

    Why an outfit works

What makes certain combinations feel harmonious and why others create a sense of dissonance.

  2. 02

    The elements of an outfit

How to work with form, volume, texture, pattern and colour.

  3. 03

    Putting it together

Using these elements intentionally when getting dressed.

  4. 04

    Final remarks

A little surprise from KORA and time for your questions.

Five elements, one composition

Harmony doesn't mean everything has to match. It means everything has a reason to be there.

  • 01

    Form

The shape and structure of a garment. Similar forms create continuity, contrasting forms create tension.

  • 02

    Volume

Where an outfit expands and where it doesn't. One dominant volume creates a clear focal point.

  • 03

    Texture

Texture changes visual weight. Similar textures bring continuity, contrasting ones bring depth.

  • 04

    Pattern

When mixing patterns, look for a shared element: a colour, a motif, or a difference in scale.

  • 05

    Colour

Close colours lower contrast, distant colours raise it. And black isn't the only neutral.

Questions you'll take home

Forget whether an outfit "works". Ask what the composition is trying to communicate.

  1. Where does the eye land first?
  2. Are the weights and volumes in balance?
  3. Is the visual contrast intentional?
  4. Does this feel like me?
